Our family has a passion for seafoods. Our father was a gourmand. From when I was 6 years old, he brought our family to Lei Yue Mun, Lau Fau Shan, Sai Kung to enjoy seafoods. However, we went to Lei Yue Mun most often. When he was still alive, we, his sons and daughters, invited him to Lung Yue Restaurant in Lei Yue Mun to celebrate his birthday every year. However, Lung Yue was shut down three years ago. He brought us to enjoy the best cuisines in restaurants like Mui Kong Hakka Restaurant, Chuen Cheung Gui Hakka Restaurant , Chung King Beijing Restaurant, American Restaurant so on. When I was a kid, we took the Walla-Walla boat from Sai Wan Ho Pier to Lei Yue Mun. Walla-Walla was an engine starting electric boat. It was also called "electric small boat" or "water taxi".
Lei Yue Mun is a short channel in Hong Kong. It lies between Junk Bay and Victoria Harbour, separating Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. The channel is an important passage for the city, forming the eastern entrance of Victoria Harbour.
The lands around the channel are also called Lei Yue Mun. On Kowloon side, it is famous for its seafood market and restaurants in the fishing villages. On the Hong Kong Island side, it has former military defence facilities. The villages of Lei Yue Mun are some of Hong Kong’s oldest settlements for a reason. They sit at the narrowest point in the harbour, and for centuries have been a haven for seafarers and their families. At first, there were pirates; they were eventually replaced by fishermen and miners who worked in the nearby quarries. Today, Lei Yue Mun is a favourite stop for seafood lovers, but it offers even more than fresh fish and razor clams.
Although it feels a world apart from the hustle of urban Hong Kong, Lei Yue Mun is just a short walk from MTR Yau Tong Station. You will know you have arrived when you spot the fishing boats moored in the Sam Ka Tsuen typhoon shelter.
Another way of getting there, take the MTR to Sai Wan Ho, exit and walk by Tai On Building to Sai Wan Ho Ferry Pier in about 5 minutes. Take the Coral Sea Ferry to Sam Ka Tsuen Ferry Pier, Lei Yue Mun.

From there, a pedestrian promenade takes you into a covered arcade lined by tanks of live sea creatures.
If you are in the mood for seafood, the procedure is simple. Find a restaurant and inspect their tank. Do you feel like lobster? Crab? Mantis Shrimp ? Grouper? Clams? They’re all there, kept alive in seawater. You just need to point at whatever is making your stomach grumble and the restaurant staff will fetch your dinner, take it to the kitchen and prepare it in classic Cantonese fashion.
There are dozens of seafood restaurants in Lei Yue Mun and competition is fierce, but a few stand out above the rest.
