Lower Town

Lower Town also spelled "Lowertown" is a neighbourhood in Rideau-Vanier Ward in central Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, to the east of downtown. It is the oldest neighbourhood of the city, with construction beginning in 1826. It includes the commercial Byward Market area in the south-western part, and is predominantly residential in the north and east.
It was historically French Canadian and Irish, and is to this day home to many Franco-Ontarian families, businesses and institutions.

The National Gallery of Canada, located in the capital city of Ottawa, Ontario, is Canada's national art museum. The museum's building takes up 46,621 square metres, with 12,400 square metres of space used for exhibiting art. It is one of the largest art museums in North America by exhibition space.
The Gallery's permanent collection includes more than 93,000 works by European, American, Asian, Canadian, and Indigenous artists. In addition to exhibiting works from its permanent collection, the Gallery also organizes and hosts a number of travelling exhibitions.

The spider sculpture at the National Gallery of Canada is called Maman by French-American artist Louise Bourgeois. This 9.25-meter tall bronze sculpture is located in the plaza outside the museum and was acquired in 2005. Inspired by the artist's mother, the sculpture represents themes of nurture, shelter, and protection.
The sculpture titled Maman was created in 1999 by artist Louise Bourgeois as a part of her inaugural commission of The Unilever Series (2000), in the Turbine Hall at London's Tate Modern. This original was created in steel, with an edition of six subsequent castings in bronze.
