Indulging in gourmet while exploring the South East 2023/03/08
I already explored South East Asia including Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta and Bali; and indulged in gourmet from March 8 to April 4, 2023.
The purpose of travel mainly is eating and drinking , sightseeing, shopping and experiencing the customs and cultures of different countries in order to enrich knowledge. Eating and drinking is a culture and also is an art.
1. Hong Kong Episode
First Stop Hong Kong, My Birthplace
Ten years ago in 2013 , I closed down my business in Shanghai and finished over 5 years of living there. I moved back to my home country Canada and landed in Vancouver. Since then I had never marked my footsteps in Hong Kong. When Hong Kong government removed COVID 2019 restrictions and opened to the world, I immediately booked air tickets and hotel rooms on line (see Itinerary at the bottom of this page) to fulfill my travel plan. The world changed a lot and environment was different. I became a stranger to Hong Kong. But I searched for its latest conditions and situations in the internet.
When I was a teenager, I often shopped at Matsuzakaya (松坂屋) , but it was closed down in mid 1990. My another favorite department Store Daimaru (大丸）was closed down in 1998.
When I was a kid, my family liked to eat at Mui Gong Restaurant (梅江) and Seven Treasures Budha Restaurant (七寶齋 ) but they were shut down several years ago. Yue Heung Restaurant (悅香飯店) famous for Imperial Concubine chicken (貴妃雞) was closed down on March 1, 2020. American Peking duck restaurant (美利堅京菜) shut its door in July, 2022. 100 years old Lin Heung Tea House (蓮香樓 ) was closed down on August 8, 2020. 55 years old Tai Wing Wah Village Cuisine (大榮華圍村菜 ) closed its door on August 28, 2022. My family's most favorite Lung Yue Restaurant in Lei Yue Mun ( 鯉魚門龍如海鮮酒樓 ) was closed down. Fortunately, Boston restaurant (波士頓餐廳) in Wanchai , Shanghai Lo Ching Hing Restaurant (老正興), Chuen Cheung Kui ( 泉章居), Carrianna Chiu Chow Cuisine Restaurant (佳寧娜潮州酒樓), Lung Mun Seafood Restaurant in Lei Yue Mun (鯉魚門龍門海鮮酒家), Chuen Kee Seafood Restaurant in Saigon（西貢全記海鲜菜館 ）and Sing Kee Seafood Restaurant Saigon (西貢勝記海鮮酒家) still survive.
On June 18, 2022 Hong Kong famous landmark Jumbo Floating restaurant (珍寶海鲜舫) encountered adverse weather conditions in the South China Sea and sank. So I could not have an aftertaste in this restaurant again.
Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disneyland were too "mickey mouse" for me. Therefore, I was not attracted by them.
Hong Kong as a world financial hub, its landmarks such as The International Finance Centre (IFC), Jardine House (Connaught Centre), Exchange Square, HSBC Headquarter, Bank Of China and Standard Chartered Bank still exist.
On Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 1pm, I took Cathay Pacific direct flight from Vancouver to Hong Kong .
When I arrived in Hong Kong, it was already Wednesday March 8, 2023 at 7 pm.
I took the Airport Express to Central, then changed to MTR (Mass Transit Railway), exited at Times Square, walked to Best Western Hotel Causeway Bay to check in.

Part 1: The Chinese Club Central Alumni Dinner
When I was young and working at IBM in Exchange Square, I sometimes went to this club to participate in McGill University Alumni Dinner.
I and my old school mates after graduation, some remained in Hong Kong, some emigrated to Canada, USA, Australia or United Kingdom.
That night, there were four tables , 39 people participated.
