Northeast Division

Northeast Portland is one of the six major divisions of Portland, Oregon. Portland’s largest division boasts striking architecture, historic theaters, and a variety of public golf courses. It comprises numerous colorful neighborhoods, including the Alberta Arts District, Hollywood, Lloyd and many more. If you are coming to Portland for a big event, like a Trail Blazers game at the Moda Center, a concert at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum or a conference at the Oregon Convention Center , odds are good that Northeast Portland is your destination. This division is also home to Portland International Airport, top-notch restaurants and bars, and noteworthy sights like the Grotto.

Northeast Portland is located north of East Burnside Street, east of North Williams Avenue and the Willamette River, and south of the Columbia River. Inner Northeast is a bustling urban environment offering easy access to the heart of the city; in outer Northeast you will find charming residential areas and peaceful parks. Northeast Portland is serviced by the Blue, Green and Red MAX Lines which provides service to Portland International Airport.

Diverse and hip Northeast Portland is known for the Alberta Arts District, with quirky shops, galleries, hip eateries and the lively Last Thursday street fair. Live music acts play regularly in small, low-key bars, and at the renovated 1920s Alberta Rose Theatre. Breweries, brunch spots and artisan boutiques line North Mississippi and Williams avenues. The Grotto is a Catholic shrine with tranquil botanical gardens.




Lloyd 

The Lloyd District is a primarily commercial neighborhood in the North and Northeast sections of Portland, Oregon, United States. It is named after Ralph Bramel Lloyd (1875–1953), a California rancher, oilman, and real estate developer who moved to and was an early commercial developer for the area in 1905.

Just across the Willamette River from downtown, Northeast Portland’s Lloyd neighborhood contains the Oregon Convention Center, Lloyd Center Mall and the Moda Center, home to Portland’s NBA team, the Portland Trail Blazers, and major concerts and events — it can be easily reached by public transportation, including MAX Light Rail and the Portland Streetcar.

The Lloyd District is best known for the Lloyd Center shopping mall and a 10-screen movie theater sits adjacent to the mall. The Rose Quarter is home to the Moda Center, home of the Portland Trail Blazers and numerous concerts and events, and the Memorial Coliseum where the Portland Winterhawks play. A number of restaurants line both Broadway and Weidler Streets as well as Grand Ave. and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. You'll find classic standbys like Red Robin and Stanford's, and Portland favorites like McMenamin's, Altabira City Tavern, and Citizen Baker.




Oregon Convention Center

The Oregon Convention Center is a convention center in Portland, Oregon. Completed in 1989 and opened in 1990, it is located on the east side of the Willamette River in the Lloyd District neighborhood. It is best known for the twin spire towers, which provide light into the building's interior and for housing the world's largest Foucault pendulum.

The building and grounds also have an extensive set of public art, with works from over two dozen mainly Pacific Northwest artists. The collection includes paintings, plaques, glass and ceramic tiles, sconces, mosaics, bells, and parts of a large Douglas fir. Each of the towers has a focal point artwork, with a colorful 40-foot-long Chinese dragon boat suspended in the east tower, and Principia by Jones/Ginzel, a dramatic Foucault pendulum hanging over a gilded halo of rays and an inlaid fantasy solar system in the floor of the north tower.

Moda Center, formerly known as the Rose Garden, is the primary indoor sports arena in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is used for basketball, rodeos, circuses, conventions, ice shows, concerts, and dramatic productions. The arena has a capacity of 20,500 spectators when configured for basketball. It is equipped with state-of-the-art acoustics and other amenities.

Lloyd Center is a community-centered mall where people from across the region come to shop and dine, and is home to great Portland traditions such as the Portland Rose Festival, ice skating and visiting Santa.
















Madison South

Madison South is a neighborhood in the Northeast section of Portland, Oregon. It is bordered by the Roseway, Sumner, Cully, Parkrose, Montavilla, and Rose City Park neighborhoods, and by the enclave city of Maywood Park. The neighborhood roughly conforms to the boundaries of Interstate 84 to the south, Interstate 205 to the east, NE Sandy Boulevard to the north, and NE 65th Avenue to the west.

Notable features of Madison South include Rocky Butte, an inactive volcanic cinder cone; the Grotto, a Catholic nature sanctuary; and the Alameda Ridge, a gravel bar left over from the Missoula Floods. Notable structures include McDaniel High School, Roseway Heights Middle School, and the MAX Light Rail NE 82nd Ave Station.

Rocky Butte is an extinct volcanic cinder cone butte with steep forested slopes visible from Interstates 205 and 84. Joseph Wood Hill Park is located at the top. The slopes of Rocky Butte are managed as the Rocky Butte Natural Area. The Butte is part of the Boring Lava Field, a group of over 30 cinder cones in Oregon and Washington. The site was formerly home to Rocky Butte Jail.

The Grotto

The National Sanctuary of our Sorrowful Mother, popularly known as The Grotto, is a Catholic outdoor altar and sanctuary located in the Madison South district of Portland, Oregon, United States. Constructed in 1924, the sanctuary covers 62 acres (25 ha), set both at the foot of, and atop, a 110 foot (34 m) cliff. It is a ministry of the Servite Friars, Order of Friar Servants of Mary. A large meditation hall whose main chamber is at clifftop level extends down to the foot of the cliff; the cross on the hill is visible many miles away. In addition to a church, there are several thousand feet of trails, including a trail of the Stations of the Cross, along which visitors may pass in contemplation through botanical gardens. The Grotto also features a full-service Conference Center, and a Gift Shop.

Concordia

Concordia is a neighborhood in the Northeast section of Portland, Oregon, United States, named after Concordia University, which was located within it. Most of the Alberta Street Arts District is in Concordia.
The neighborhood borders are NE 22nd Ave. on the west, NE Columbia Blvd. on the north, and NE 42nd Ave. on the east. On the south, the border is NE Prescott St. and NE Alberta Ct., to the west and east of NE 33rd Ave., respectively.

The Alberta Rose Theatre is a historic venue renowned for its intimate and eclectic performances. Housed in a beautifully restored 1920s building, it hosts a diverse range of events including live music, comedy, and theatrical productions.




Alberta Arts District 

Alberta Arts District is a commercial district in Portland, Oregon which connects the Concordia, King and Vernon neighborhoods in the Northeast quadrant of the city. The district centers on NE Alberta Street, and stretches approximately 1.5 miles, from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to NE 33rd Avenue.















Hollywood

The Hollywood District is a neighborhood of northeast Portland, Oregon, United States renamed for its historic 1920s-era Hollywood Theatre.
The Hollywood District is home to the historic Hollywood Theater and figures in Beverly Cleary's Klickitat Street series of books, Close to MAX Light Rail System it supports many small businesses.

The Hollywood Theatre is a historic movie theater in northeast Portland, Oregon built in 1926. It is a central historical landmark of the Hollywood District, which is named after the theatre itself. The theatre is located at 4122 NE Sandy Blvd, and is operated by a non-profit organization.
 
    

    



Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden

The Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden, located on the west side of Grant Park in northeast Portland, consists of three bronze statues grouped around a splash fountain. The figures represent three beloved characters from children's author Beverly Cleary's books: Ramona Quimby, Henry Huggins, and Henry's dog Ribsy. Portland artist Lee Hunt created the statues. Granite plaques around the fountain are engraved with the titles of Beverly Cleary's books that are set in Portland. The sculpture garden was dedicated on October 13, 1995.

Cleary grew up in the neighborhood and played in Grant Park as a child, and many of the events in her books take place in the park and on neighboring streets. Klickitat Street, where Henry and his friends live, is located a few blocks north of the park.
