Chinese people have always regarded the New Year as a major event for thousands of years. A lot of preparations need to be made before the Chinese New Year. They will have to buy many things, such as food, tools, clothes, wear, games, sacrificial offering, dried foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, raw food, cooked food and so on. All of these things are called "lunar year goods".

Procurement process of buying some good foods is called " to do New Year shopping 辦年貨". For examples, buying abalone, ginseng, shark's fins, fish maw to cook a good meal for  expressing your condolences after a year of hard work and celebrating new year. In some places, people will buy candies, dried seeds to fill up a candy box 全盒. When relatives and friends come to pay New Year’s greetings, hosts will share them with candies and dried seeds. Besides, New Year shopping also includes gifts. Gifts including fresh fruits, chocolates and cookies in some cities and districts. Because when visiting relatives and friends’ homes for New Year greetings, traditionally you have to bring some gifts.

Year of the Snake falls on Wednesday January 29, 2025. I already did New Year shopping in two hot spots in Vancouver such as Metrotown and Richmond.
