Regions

There are 5 major regions in Singapore, namely West Region, North Region, North-East Region, Central Region and  East Region.

West Region

The West Region (Malay: Wilayah Barat, Chinese: 西區) of Singapore is one of the five regions in the city-state. The region is the largest in terms of land area and is the third most populous region after the North-East Region and Central Region. Jurong East is the regional centre of the region, with plans of developing the Jurong Lake District into a second CBD area. Jurong West is the most populous town in the region, with a population of 262,730 residents. Comprising 25,500 hectares of land area, it includes twelve planning areas and is home to about 922,540 residents.

Jurong East

Jurong East is a planning area and residential town situated in the West Region of Singapore. It borders Jurong West and Boon Lay to the west, Clementi to the east, Tengah and Bukit Batok to the north and Selat Jurong to the south.

First developed in the 1970s, it is located approximately 15 km (9.3 miles) west of the Downtown Core district. Jurong East is the 7th most populated planning area in the West Region. Jurong East, along with the entire Jurong area in general, is envisioned to be the country's second central business district (CBD) as part of the Jurong Lake District project.

Jurong Lake District

Consisting of Jurong Lake, Jurong Gateway, International Business Park and the southern section of Toh Guan, the Jurong Lake District is a prime regional centre serving as an commercial hub for business developments remote from the Central Area, to meet the various demands of businesses and provide employment opportunities closer to people staying in the West Region of Singapore.

Jurong Lake Gardens
Yuan Ching Rd, Singapore

Jurong Lake Gardens comprises three gardens – Lakeside Garden (formerly Jurong Lake Gardens West), Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden (formerly Jurong Lake Garden Central).

Chinese Garden

Pagodas, pavilions and a massive water lily pond–these no doubt make the newly reopened Chinese Garden a photography haven. The Chinese Garden has an endless amount of nooks and crannies that are perfect for photo-taking, especially if you’re doing a Chinese-style wedding photo shoot. You’ll find the gorgeous Bonsai Gallery here, as well as a small bamboo forest with statues of important figures in Chinese history.
The Chinese Garden includes features such as the Main Arch, Twin Pagoda, Cloud Pagoda, Stone Boat and Bonsai Garden.

Japanese Gardens

The Japanese Garden also has some great photo spots thanks to its many aquatic gardens and waterscapes. There’s also a Japanese-inspired tea house and a massive guesthouse with restrooms and drinking fountains to take a break. Bring walking shoes, a fan and an umbrella, though (and consider cycling instead of walking) because the Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden span a massive 13.5 hectares!
