Clinton British Columbia 2024
       August 25 - September 9, 2024

 Marble Range Provincial Park

My friend Raymond is working as the Head Chef of the restaurant at Cariboo Lodge Resort in Clinton, British Columbia. He invited me to work as a chef for Jacky the owner of the hotel starting Sunday August 25, 2024.  I could only work here from Sunday to Wednesday because I had to return to Vancouver to work for my full time job at Koryo Korean BBQ in Richmond Centre. In addition to wage and salary, they provided me with free food and lodging.
Every Sunday, I travelled for more than 7 hours on the Ebus from Pacific Station in Vancouver to Kamloops, and then from Kamloops to Clinton 1318 Cariboo Highway Petro Canada. From there, I walked to the hotel in about 3 minutes.

The Village of Clinton is a small friendly community located in one of the most pristine natural environments in the world, while still being close and accessible to larger centres, such as Kamloops and Kelowna. Clinton is 384 km north of Vancouver, located on Highway 97, midway between Vancouver and Prince George. Clinton has a colourful history of over 150 years and was founded as a direct result of the “boom” of the Cariboo Gold Rush. This active community of 650 residents has a unique western atmosphere, stunning scenery, and an abundance of recreational opportunities. Incorporated in 1963, Clinton boasts hosting one of British Columbia’s oldest continuously running events; the Clinton Annual Ball, now held in May of each year.

Originally built in 1892 of hand-molded bricks as the community schoolhouse, the Museum houses one of the finest collections of Gold Rush and Cariboo artifacts.
The building was used as a courthouse from 1919 until the late 1940s. In 1999 the Museum Society acquired the original 1911 Provincial Government Stables and had the building relocated to the rear of the museum. Wonderful exhibits that tell a fascinating tale of the character and perseverance of Clinton’s pioneers are on display there along with vintage buggies, wagons, and machinery.

Marble Range Provincial Park
Marble Range, Clinton, BC V0K 1K0

Marble Range Provincial Park west of Cariboo Highway 97 near Clinton is named after its unusual limestone karst formations. These mountains feature caves, sinkholes and disappearing streams, as well as cliffs, chasms, and crenellated ridges.

The park is located within the Pavilion Ranges, at the southwest edge of the Cariboo Plateau, and protects mostly alpine and subalpine habitats and ecosystems.

The 17,920-hectare park is a wilderness area that is not regularly serviced or patrolled. The trails of the Marble Range are popular with local hikers and horseback riders, including some of the best ridge hiking in the Cariboo, but they are rough and steep, and not maintained. Since trails are unmarked and tend to be obscure in places, visitors must carry and know how to use a topographic map and compass or GPS unit. Horseback riding is popular in the Marble Range, and may be arranged through guest ranches in the area. Wilderness, backcountry or walk-in camping is allowed, but no facilities are provided.

Two notable hikes are Mt. Bowman (2,246 metres, 14 kms return), and Mt. Kerr (2,278 metres, 23 kms return) via Wild Horse Ridge. To gain access to the trailheads, head west at the south end of Clinton on the Kelly Lake Road.
